Happy Birthday, Wes!
Bright and early one Tuesday morning eight very short years ago, Kris, my sister, and I hopped in our 1997 Honda Accord. We were on our way to have us a baby! The hospital greeted us with paperwork, admitting questions, a gown, and the usual pre-birth moments. We were having the best time trying to contain our excitement vs. nervousness all while wanting to burst out in the familiar chorus of "let's get this party started"!
Well, the party did start and we are still partying - partying in celebration of such a great kid!
As I think back about this very day those years ago,
I am overcome with emotion.
I am overcome with emotion.
A big, huge ball of emotion.
A ball, similar to a snowball, in that with every turn it picks up more
and keeps growing and growing.
and keeps growing and growing.
It took oh, about one nano second for our firstborn to capture my heart.
He is everything I hoped our child would be.
He is everything I hoped our child would be.
The only problem...it is going way too fast!!!
The ball keeps rolling with its own momentum and I just want it to stop.
Really, I would prefer for it to just go back to those first few minutes - minutes where the only thing occupying our lives was gazing into his precious eyes and soaking in the overwhelming feeling of gratefulness - minutes spent cuddling our boy, rocking, and singing "You Are My Sunshine".
